NAME: William C. Rason
I was born in Detroit as were my father and grandfather. It is my great-grand father and his family that I am digging on now. His name was Charles E. RASON believed to have been born about 1877 St. Cathatrines, ONT and immigrated to MI as a child. He married Lydia Baxter presumed to have been born England and also immigrated to MI as a child.
Children:
Carleton Rason b.24 Jan 1892 d.Jan 1969
Reginald Delmont Rason b.17 Jun 1897 d.6 Apr 1960 (my grandfather)
Charles is interred at Rosemont Cemetery, Detroit; Section 13 lot 373 Grave 1. Death 13 Jul 1933. Interment 15 Jul 1933. Lydia is in Section 13, lot 373, Grave 2. Death 29 Feb 1932. Interment 2 Mar 1932. There are no grave stones but it is believed that Reginald is in Grave 3.
As a rookie genealogist, I have done relatively little on the Rason line and would welcome any assistance and/or suggestions on resources to assist me. I live near Syracuse, NY and have not had an opportunity to get to Detroit to work on this. Most of what I have accomplished has been on the Internet and with the assistance of others. William C. Rason

NAME: Jean Chapman Snow
My Revolutionary ancestor, Ezekiel CHAPMAN, moved to Cooperstown NY in 1799, with many children, among them son Zenas (my gr-gr-grandfather) who came with his wife and 2 children. There they stayed until my grandfather moved to Philmont NY. Zenas m a second time, and Randall was the oldest child of the second marriage.

Randall moved to Macomb County abt 1866, when his older son John was discharged from the Civil War. Randall's wife had died in NY, and Randall, John and younger son Evander moved to MI together. Randall m a Polly Davis 2 Apr 1865 (so how could he have moved there in 1866?? But that's the date my informant gave me). John m Hannah VAN HORN and they had 3 sons and 3 daughters. I don't know the names of the children except for one son, Clare, whom I found in the 1920 WA census (because his mother Hannah was listed with him, John having d 1907).

My original informant (abt 1974), Margaret MacNeil, was a granddaughter of John Chapman. Her father's name may have been Major B. Chapman. He moved to the Upper Peninsula (Munising? That's where MM lived), got a good job in a sawmill, married and remained in the Upper Peninsula the rest of his life. John's other two sons (don't know about the daughters) moved with him to WA in 1900, where John d 1907.

The only one who remained in MI (other than MM's father, and perhaps the 3 daughters) was Evander, who lived on a farm in Macomb Co. He had m a niece of Hannah Van Horn, Rosalind Longstaff. Their children: Gilbert b abt 1874, Emeline b abt 1875 (John and Evander had a younger sister Emeline who d at 14 in NY), and Polly Eufred (sp?) b 30 Dec 1882. I wonder if the reason for Randall and his 2 sons moving to MI was because of bounty land. I haven't yet tried to find out, since I am working on many other lines as well.

I'd be grateful for any information about these families, as I am collecting material for a book about Ezekiel, his ancestors (back to Edward Chapman of Ipswich MA, b in Yorkshire England) and his descendants. Jean Chapman Snow

NAME: Cathi Stephens
Francis Gore DARBY, born 1803 in St. Catherines, Ontario, to George DARBY and Margaret BOWMAN, married Elisabeth D. FERGUSON on Feb. 9, 1831 Queenston, ONT. Known children were; George born 1831 in St. Catherines, ONT and Charlotte E. born May 4, 1837 in St. Catherines, ONT. Francis purchased 5 acres of land in Macomb County (in or near Bruce Twp., PO Romeo) on May 20, 1852 from William F. MYERS and his wife Lerapta (?). On November 6, 1852 he bought 22 acres from Stephen FURGESON of Oakland Co., MI.

On April 30, 1853 their son, George DARBY married Huldah MYERS in Macomb County. The Darby families were found living next to each other on the 1860 census. I am searching for the parents of Huldah MYERS, born NY. Myers familly possibly moving to Oakland Co., MI, in abt. 1838/39. At her marriage the witnesses were; Bethiah MYERS and Polly MYERS - possibly sisters? Was William F. MYERS her father? Francis G. DARBY sold his Macomb Co. land on January 29, 1868 to Samuel E. FERGUSON, of Adison, Oakland Co., MI, but it is noted that Francis "reserved all the wheat crop lying in the ground of said land". Francis was both a farmer and a carpenter in Macomb and Lapeer Co.'s. The family story says that he would take jobs in Canada and travel on foot to the site from Michigan, stay there until the job was finished and then walk back home to Michigan.

Their daughter, Charlotte E., married George W. STUART on January 2, 1856 in Lapeer Co., MI. Francis and his family moved to Almont, Lapeer County, MI in 1868. Francis had a brother, Ralfe Clench DARBY, born 1801 St. Catherines, ONT, who along with his wife, Charity Jane _______, and children moved from NY to Macomb Co., and then appearing on the 1870 census in Almont, Lapeer Co., MI. George and Huldah (MYERS) DARBY had the following children; Frank b. May 19, 1856 Macomb Co., m. Arcelia PALEN in 1877 - Bliss, b. abt. 1859 Macomb Co. - John Bowman, b. Sept. 1863 Macomb Co., m. Jean PEARSALL abt. 1888 - and Carrie B., b. Nov. 13, 1871 in Almont, Lapeer Co., MI, m. George LOWES in 1891. All of the children died in Almont, Lapeer Co., with the exception of John Bowman DARBY who had moved to the Detroit area and died there in about 1934. Elisabeth D. (FERGUSON) DARBY died Jan. 22, 1876 in Lapeer Co. and Francis Gore DARBY died July 14, 1897 in Walworth Co., SD. Cathi Stephens

Hugh SMITH d 23 June 1890, a resident of Washington Twp. (no death record on file). He made a will leaving all to his brother Hiram H Smith of Buffalo NY. The will was contested by a nephew Conley F BATES & his brothers Nathan Bates and Hugh Bates. The three Bates brothers were the son of a Nathan Bates dec'd (wife unknown) and none were residents of Macomb Co. I assume that the wife of Nathan Bates was a sister of Hugh Smith, and there may have been another sister of Hugh Smith, who married a YOUNG with children by the names of George Young and Morris Young.
